Saturday 12th July 2008

Finally they've arrived!!! I've harvested my first new potatoes and the garlic which I planted (it seems like years) months ago... Letting the garlic dry out a bit but I'll be digging into the potatoes later this weekend.

Last week I had a comfort eating session at one of my top restaurant choices, Bodeans. You can't beat a plate full of meat (chicken, beef ribs, pulled pork), flowing with BBQ'ed juices to get you smiling again.

Also this week I've signed up for the Intermediate Certificate in Wines offered by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. Can't wait to get started; what a great excuse to drink - um, I mean sample - some great wines. Although there is a proper exam at the end. I'll keep you posted.

I heard one of the funniest things this week... Waste less food, our revered Prime Minister tells us as he tucks into the G8 marathon dining experience. True, we are a nation of kitchen wasters (click here for my top tips). But Government should start by targetting areas they can more readily control, rather than the average woman's/man's kicthen. I'll write more on my thoughts on this later.

Beef and Anchovies are a classic combination which seems to be making a come back. I'm testing out a few recipes and hope to delight you all later this week.

And finally - don't forget British Cherry Day on Saturday 19th July 2008. I'll be posting a couple of my favourite cherry recipes, including the birthday cake I'll be making for a party on the same day.
