When I was at university my stock meal was a pasta dish made with smoked sausage and tomatoes. That’s before I moved back to my parent’s and had fine dining every night. Tiffany Goodall’s years at Newcastle University were slightly more sophisticated and have led to her new book: From Pasta to Pancakes, The Ultimate Student Cookbook (Quadrille Publishing, out on 7th August 2009). |

I much prefer writing reviews about poor meals and bad service. Not through any sort of vindictive evilness, but I enjoy offering genuine feedback and giving restaurants the chance to improve. Establishments which offer a good meal are much harder to talk about with less opportunity for witty comments which entertain readers so much.So this is a straight up review. Gilmour’s is a good place. |

Incoming SMS: Errm… I’m only just at Peckham so running a bit behind schedule :o) Should be there by 9.30ish tho. How far is it from Oxford Circus? That warm confident feeling slightly drifted away as the above text vibrated onto my phone. Nothing like having a team mate who was running late and had no sense of direction. But as I walked up to The Cookery School on Little Portland Street I was quivering with excited anticipation at a full on day of shopping and cooking. |

Now More Tea, Vicar? usually focuses on British food, but to celebrate the France's Bastille Day on 14th July and the love/hate relationship which our two nations seem to enjoy we've got a little competition lined up. Let us not forget that France has given us some of the World's tastiest food. Not to mention patisseries to indulge the sweetest of tooth. |
